Match Format & Game Structure

 

Start of play

Each game begins with a coin toss between captains to decide either the first Centre Pass or goal end.

Game duration

Matches are played in either two halves or four quarters, depending on the league.

Centre Pass Rule

All non-centre players must stay in their respective thirds. A free pass is awarded if players are offside when the whistle is blown.

Player & Team Regulations

Team Size

  • 7 players on court at any time

  • Up to 10 squad members per night

  • Minimum 5 players required to play (with Centre position filled)

  • Mixed leagues: 2–3 males max, across three different court zones

Guest players

Teams may borrow up to 3 guest players, subject to umpire approval.

Kit And Safety

  • No jewellery (except taped wedding/medical bands)

  • Nails must be short and smooth

  • No sunglasses or caps

  • Headscarves must be securely fitted

  • No gloves unless medically approved

Key Playing Rules

Offside


Players must stay within the designated areas for their positions. Reaching into offside areas is permitted, stepping into them is not.

Obstruction


A player defending the ball must be at least 0.9m (3ft) away. Jumping to intercept is allowed if the correct distance is maintained.

Contact


Deliberate or accidental contact is not allowed. Penalty passes or shots may be awarded.

Footwork


Dragging, sliding, or taking a second step with the landing foot is not allowed. If landing on both feet, players must choose a pivot foot.

Fair Play & Conduct

Respect for Officials

Umpires must be listened to and respected. Disputes should be discussed respectfully at half time or post-match.

Player Behaviour

 

  • No smoking or alcohol consumption near courts

  • Discrimination or abusive behaviour will result in disciplinary action

  • Intimidation of officials may lead to expulsion from the league

Disciplinary Actions

Suspensions (sin bin) or dismissals may be issued. Any team fielding a suspended player forfeits the game 20-0.

Scoring & Points System

 

  • Win = 5 points

  • Draw = 3 points

  • Loss by less than half the opposing team’s score = 1 point

  • Loss by more = 0 points

Injuries & Safety

 

  • Call “Time” to stop the game for injuries

  • Players must wear appropriate footwear with securely tied laces

  • No time is allowed to re-tie laces during the game

FAQS

  • No, except a wedding ring or medical bracelet, and only if securely taped.

  • If you arrive over 3 minutes late, the opposing team may be awarded 1 goal per minute until both teams are ready.

  • Yes, but only 2–3 males are allowed on the court at once, and they must be spread across three positions.

  • A team must have at least 5 players ready within 5 minutes of the start. Otherwise, the match is forfeited.

  • No gloves are allowed unless approved for medical reasons with documentation.
