Football in Manchester just got an upgrade.
Powerleague has invested more than £250,000 into a major regeneration project at its Manchester Central venue on Union Street, delivering upgraded pitches and expanded playing space for the thousands of players who lace up their boots there every week.
The improvements include the regeneration of seven pitches with Powerleague’s premium PowerPitch Plus surface. Designed to create a more authentic and consistent playing experience, the upgrade covers six 5-a-side pitches and one 7-a-side pitch. Alongside the resurfacing works, the club has also introduced an additional 7-a-side pitch, increasing capacity for leagues, casual games and community football.
For a venue that has been part of Manchester’s grassroots football scene for more than 30 years, the project represents a significant step forward while staying true to its roots.
Every week, around 4,000 players take to the pitches at the Manchester Central club. From competitive leagues to after-work kickabouts and weekend fixtures, the venue has long been a hub for small-sided football in the city. The upgraded surfaces ensure players can enjoy faster gameplay, improved ball roll and a consistently high-quality pitch underfoot.
Powerleague CEO John Gillespie said the investment reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to the players and communities that make the game special.

The Manchester regeneration is part of a wider programme of improvements across the Powerleague estate. In 2025 alone, the business committed nearly £1.1 million to upgrades across its clubs, ensuring players across the UK can enjoy the best possible facilities for the beautiful game.
