Kids Parties
Football Party Games: 15 Ideas for All Ages and Abilities
Planning a football-themed birthday party? The pitch is booked and the kids are ready. Now you need games that keep everyone moving, laughing, and coming back for more.
These 15 football party games work for a range of ages and abilities, so no one gets left on the sidelines.
Warm-Up Games
1Dribbling Relay Race
Set up two parallel lines of cones and split the group into two teams. Each player dribbles a ball to the end cone and back, then tags the next player in line. First team to finish wins. Simple, quick, and gets everyone warmed up immediately.
Best for: Ages 4+, all abilities
2Musical Footballs
Like musical chairs, but with footballs. Place one fewer ball than there are players on the pitch. When the music stops, every player must be touching a ball. Whoever misses out is eliminated. Keep going until one player remains.
Best for: Ages 4 to 8
3Stuck in the Mud (Football Edition)
A classic playground game with a twist: players can only be freed when someone passes a ball through their legs. It gets increasingly chaotic, which the kids will love.
Best for: Ages 5 to 10
Skill-Based Games
4Target Shooting
Set up targets in the goal: hoops, buckets, or simply taped zones on the net. Each player gets three shots to hit as many targets as possible. Great for practising accuracy.
Best for: Ages 6+, all abilities
5Penalty Shootout Tournament
Split into pairs for a penalty shootout. Losers are eliminated, winners go through. Run the bracket until you have one champion. Give the birthday child the chance to take the first penalty for an extra special moment.
Best for: Ages 7+
6Beat the Keeper
One child goes in goal while the others take turns shooting from different positions. Count how many goals each player scores in a set number of shots. Swap the keeper every few rounds.
Best for: Ages 6+
7Cone Slalom Race
Set up a slalom course with cones and time each player dribbling through it. Keep a leaderboard and run it a couple of times, because kids love trying to beat their own time.
Best for: Ages 5+
Team Games
8Mini Tournament
Split the group into teams of 3 or 4 and run a round-robin mini tournament. Keep score, track results, and award a trophy or medal to the winning team. A 5-a-side pitch is ideal for this: it keeps the game tight and action-packed.
Best for: Ages 6+
9Keepaway (Piggy in the Middle)
Three players: two try to keep the ball away from the one in the middle. If the middle player wins it, whoever lost possession goes in. Adjust the size of the area to make it easier or harder.
Best for: Ages 6+
10Colours
Split into two teams. The coach calls a colour and both teams race to find and stand on a cone of that colour first. Add a football element by making players dribble to the cone rather than run. First team to reach the correct cone wins the point.
Best for: Ages 4 to 8
Fun and Silly Games
11Nutmeg Challenge
Pairs face off trying to nutmeg each other by passing the ball between the opponent’s legs. Set a time limit and count how many nutmegs each player gets. Surprisingly competitive.
Best for: Ages 7+
12Crossbar Challenge
Each player gets three attempts to hit the crossbar from the penalty spot. Anyone who hits it gets a point. Simple, but wildly entertaining. The kids who hit it will never let anyone forget it.
Best for: Ages 8+
13Last Man Standing
Every player has a ball and dribbles around within a set area. The aim is to kick other players’ balls out of the zone while protecting your own. Last player with their ball in the zone wins.
Best for: Ages 6+
14Wembley (2v2 Chaos)
A smaller-pitch elimination game. Pairs play against each other: whoever scores goes through, whoever concedes is out. The last pair standing plays a final. Kids who are out cheer and get back in as teams are eliminated.
Best for: Ages 7+
The Grand Finale
15Birthday Child’s Penalty
End the session with the birthday child taking a penalty in front of the whole group. Everyone cheers whatever happens. Simple, easy, and gives the guest of honour their moment.
Best for: All ages
